Got a chance to see a few BTP presentations today. Realized a few things about this much hyped thing.
It's not just enough to be confident in front of the panel but you must also have full knowledge about your project. Though the presentation may last for not more than twenty minutes but that time is sufficient to evaluate a person on the basis of the total work one has put into the project. And hard work counts and hard work shows, this is one thing I have always known but it is today that I realized its importance.
Secondly, you can never fool a professor with your diplomatic answers. If you don't know something, accept it. Don't try to defend your answers with vague explanations. That could have a negative effect.
Your attire matters a lot, and the way you carry yourself while presenting is also very important. A single look will give an impression on how serious you are about the project. Therefore, a highly casual or a highly conscious attitude won't help.
Though being confident is not the only thing that counts but is one of the basic things required in your presentation. Don't allow the professor to dominate you with his inane questions, courtesy : SEN tutorial.
This is all I can learn in my endeavor to understand our most beloved panel.

choosing the panel is also very very important tho' it doesnt depend completely on us.
People who really worked hard, who do know about the project (what they are doing) and who were sincere also faced bad situations during the presentations. If profs liek srivastava come with intentions to kill students who can help!!
anyway even if the btp presentation doesnt go well (incase) dont loose hope. Its just a presentation.
PS: Seriously, many students suffered this time.

I don't have much idea about the evaluation process but I believe that a sincere hard work never goes in vain.
Though at times you might have to taste failure, but that's a part of life and one should learn to accept it and bounce back.
Nice to know more about the panel.. thnx!
PS: Who is this anonymous person?
PPS: and how did your ppt go??
If you can accept the failure which you dont expect after all the hard work then nothing is a problem... the panel, the presentation all looks good.
hey! I wasn't anonymous.. my name was there.stumbled upon your blog. I was surprised to see here that juniors attend btp presentations. anyway gud luck to u :)

Hi mohan, you are still anonymous to me. May I know your full name..
A 20min. presentation doesn't give a true picture of the work that u may have done in 2 months. Many ppl who really have worked hard can get into a bad situation and those who may not have worked much can get out without getting into the trap.
But this is just a presentation. The ultimate thing that really matters is the hard and sincere work that you do. If you have worked sincerely and are satisfied with your work then grades and all doesn't matter much.
I would advise the juniors to take the BTP seriously because if u work sincerely for 4 months even if you are not able to deliver a very good work, you learn a lot about the chosen field or topic on which you work.
Well Richa, I'd just opine the same way many others have done.
Its not hard work that'd be rewarded - its the comfort level with EACH professor in your panel and wait, there is much more than that. If your prof(guide) screws his compatriots(other prof's) students, the other prof is bound to do the same and there we become the scapegoats of the situation. Imagine my panel - Srivastav sir my mentor and Mathuria in panel too - the screwing thing happened in full swing if you did not know the either prof well or the previous student of the opposite prof was crushed by your prof.
I hope you get the point. :)
